The theory aspects of this course are delivered via self directed eLearning. This is a stand-alone professional development course and may be purchased without the need to complete the Industry Placement. Learners outside Australia are welcome to apply.
The eLearning theory module delivers Educare’s highly regarded care theory training as a fully self-directed online course, allowing you to flexibly complete all the unit theory via self-study from the comfort of your own home.
A self-directed eLearning course is essentially an online course that you navigate on your own terms. Unlike a traditional school setting with set periods and live lectures, these courses are asynchronous, meaning the materials are pre-uploaded and ready whenever you are. Once you log in to the platform, you are presented with a structured path containing a mix of lessons, reading materials, interactive elements and assessments. Because there is no instructor leading the way in real-time, the platform acts as your roadmap, tracking your progress as you move from one topic to the next.
The “self-directed” aspect means you have total control over the pace and depth of your learning. If you already understand a concept, you can breeze through it; if a topic is complex, you can review the learning material multiple times or do extra research. Ultimately, the experience is designed to be flexible, allowing you to fit professional development or personal hobbies into your life without the constraints of a rigid timetable.
Students who successfully complete the eLearning Theory Course will be eligible to undertake Part 2 – Industry Work Placement.
Important: The Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing and Disability) is only attained after completion of both the eLearning Theory Course and the Australia Industry Work Placement. Students who complete both will receive official graduation certificate and academic results for the qualification.
Fees are in Australian Dollars and are payable in full. Fees are non-refundable upon commencement.
It is expected that placements should be completed within 12 weeks.
Important: You must complete the eLearning Theory Course before you can arrange your Industry Placement. If you are not Australian, you are responsible for arranging a suitable visa to undertake this activity.
To complete the qualification, students will undertake placement hours in an Australian aged care facility designated by Educare College in the vicinity of an Educare campus. Students may suggest, or request their own placement location but locations must be approved by the trainer, or an alternative will be allocated.
An individualised work placement log book along with your training plan will be provided to you by your assessor which you must use to record and track your course progress and work placement hours.
Students are required to do their work placement shifts determined during the times provided by the placement provider. Please note shifts can vary and may include mornings (commencing at 6am), evenings (finishing at 11pm) and possibly some night shifts between Monday and Sunday. Students are expected ensure their time management skills are utilised well in order to not only balance family and work commitments but also their vocational shifts.
Should the student’s assessment results not be satisfactory, they will be deemed not competent against those prescribed units. You may make necessary arrangements with your trainer to reassess your placement at another suitable time for all parties.
Prior to commencement of Vocational Placement students are required to organise and complete an Australian Federal Police Check. Students must obtain the Check to go on Placement and be able to complete the qualification. For students working within Queensland Health, as well as a police check you will also be required to obtain a Positive Notice for Child Related Employment (Blue Card) and have Hepatitis A & B immunisation before commencing Clinical Placements. It is recommended potential students begin Hepatitis vaccinations if required, as soon as possible to ensure timely completion.
